From Log To Stool
5-Week Course
Sundays, September 28 – October 26, 10:30am – 2:30pm
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced to the tools, techniques, and processes behind traditional staked leg furniture.
Over five sessions, we’ll use a combination of hand tools and select power tools to design and build a three-legged staked stool from start to finish. Along the way, you’ll work with both green wood and kiln-dried lumber, splitting and riving fresh logs for the legs, and hand-shaping kiln-dried stock for the seats.
Topics covered include:
Fundamentals of design for staked furniture
Understanding rake and splay, and how to apply them
Material selection and grain orientation
Working with green wood vs. dried lumber
By the end of the course, you’ll have not only a finished stool, but also a strong foundation in the traditional joinery and design principles that make staked furniture enduring and versatile.
