In this 2 day workshop on May 16th + May 23rd (10:30am - 1:30pm), students will design and create a one-of-a-kind carved picture frame while learning the fundamentals of traditional, analog woodworking.
Participants will be guided through the full process of frame-making, beginning with an introduction to fine joinery techniques such as measuring, marking, sawing, and chiseling. Using these skills, each student will construct the structural “skeleton” of a 4x6 or 5x7 frame.
Once assembled, the focus shifts to surface design and personalization. Students will explore a variety of carving techniques using chisels and knives to add texture, pattern, and character to their piece. The class concludes with an introduction to staining and finishing methods, allowing each frame to be completed with a unique look.
This class is ideal for beginners and anyone interested in working with their hands, learning traditional woodworking skills, or creating a meaningful handmade object.
What you’ll learn:
Basic hand tool woodworking techniques
Intro to joinery (measuring, marking, cutting, chiseling)
Carving methods and decorative surface design
Wood finishing and staining techniques
What you’ll make:
One custom carved wooden picture frame (4x6 or 5x7)
All materials are provided, and students will leave with a finished piece ready to dry and display at home.
